npower again
Is it npower? I don’t know any more. Anyway, whichever bunch of retards is responsible for getting 240ish volts into my house failed again this morning, at about 5am. This means I now have to:
1. fix the corrupt mysql tables for the database that runs this site- this was in my inbox today:
Subject: WARNING: mysqlcheck has found corrupt tables
2. Reset several clocks around the house- like the central heating clock, whch has a knackered backup battery.
I seriously think that the electricity supply is a lot less reliable these days. I’m old enough to remember the power cuts from industrial acion in the 7o’s, but aside from that failures were very very rare.

Yes, power cuts from the 70′s. It didn’t matter then that the homeowner lost electicity, you just got the candles out and waited for it to come back on. The only consideration was the fridge and that was no real problem either. With no central heating the kitchen was invariably as cold as the inside of the Fridgidaire anyway.
Fridge? hah, you were lucky… we lived in a cardboard box etc.

Are these boxes connected to a UPS?

No, I don’t have one good enough, plus of course the wife will physically harm me if a bring any more computer hardware into the house.

No reason why an UPS shouldn’t be kept in the garage or somewhere like that.

Problem:
I don’t have a garage, and the cellar is a long way down. I have considered making the cellar a computer room (the heat/airflow would keep it dry!), but I’m too lazy to run ethernet down there….

How about the loft?
