Rocky Lane, Aston/Nechells:
Shanahans could be a cracking pub, despite being in the depths of Aston. It’s a nice old big Victorian building, and there’s a reasonable selection of beer (no real ale though). Friendly staff too.
The problems? It was *really* dark, and a bit grim looking inside, and the music (some dreadful rap/urban shite when we arrived) was too loud to talk over.
It’s certainly an unusual pub though: it offers B&B in Aston (!)- presumably aimed at workers rather than tourists, at very cheap rates, and, if the signs are to be believed, topless barmaids (and free curry too) on a Thursday evening. The beer was cheap and OK too.
Like I say, it could be a cracking pub.
Especially on a Thursday
