<\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>and I still do.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, we actually did have a lovely time in Bangor. My dear Stymistress booked us a weekend away, the primary objective being a visit to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.piers.org.uk\/pier\/bangor-garth\/\">Bangor Garth Pier<\/a>, so a trip up the A41 and along the A55 on a Friday morning saw us in Bangor by lunchtime, with lunch in a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.piglet-net.net\/pubblog\/?p=1658\">nearby pub<\/a> and checked into the hotel overlooking the pier.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3345\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3345\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.piglet-net.net\/pigblog\/images\/\/P1040900.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.piglet-net.net\/pigblog\/images\/\/P1040900-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3345\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.piglet-net.net\/pigblog\/images\/P1040900-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.piglet-net.net\/pigblog\/images\/P1040900-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.piglet-net.net\/pigblog\/images\/P1040900-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3345\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The pier, from the car park, a mere few yards from our hotel.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The pier itself is lovely: in generally good order, unlike <a href=\"http:\/\/www.piglet-net.net\/pigblog\/?p=2769\">one just down the coast<\/a>, and long, poking out long enough into the Menai Strait that Whatpub starts suggesting The Gazelle Inn as nearby:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/embed?pb=!1m14!1m8!1m3!1d19100.15372241652!2d-4.13778323033491!3d53.24439430000001!3m2!1i1024!2i768!4f13.1!3m3!1m2!1s0x0%3A0x8a7cf460f305962f!2sThe+Gazelle+Hotel!5e0!3m2!1sen!2suk!4v1499716820846\" width=\"500\" height=\"500\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"border:0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>As to the town, subsequent exploring on Saturday showed that our location by the pier was by far the best for pubs and food: I don’t think the town’s considerable student population does it any favours, so we stayed around Garth mostly, though the fact we both were suffering with a cold probably helped on that one, a pleasant sit in the sun on the pier or a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.piglet-net.net\/pubblog\/?p=1660\">nearby beer garden<\/a> being better than a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.piglet-net.net\/pubblog\/?p=1663\">sticky-floored, sticky-tabled city pub<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Sunday saw us drive over the lovely <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Menai_Suspension_Bridge\">Menai Bridge<\/a> to Menai Bridge, and a pop up the coast for a bonus pier, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.piers.org.uk\/pier\/beaumaris\/\">Beaumaris<\/a>: less impressive than Bangor, but at least not falling down :-\/. <\/p>\n<p>A trip back down the coast, a visit to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationaltrust.org.uk\/plas-newydd-country-house-and-gardens\">Plas Newyd<\/a>, and a drive home. 2 more <a href=\"http:\/\/www.piglet-net.net\/pigblog\/?cat=33\">piers<\/a> visited!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>You know, I always hated this record: and I still do.
