{"id":4863,"date":"2023-12-03T21:37:04","date_gmt":"2023-12-03T21:37:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.piglet-net.net\/pigblog\/?p=4863"},"modified":"2023-12-03T21:37:04","modified_gmt":"2023-12-03T21:37:04","slug":"back-to-the-80s","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.piglet-net.net\/pigblog\/?p=4863","title":{"rendered":"Back to the 80s"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s odd, having lived through the 80s, to see the revival of it, and the spinning-off of 80s culture and re-interpretations of it, and one that&#8217;s currently grabbed me is Synthwave\/Retrowave\/Outrun asthetic. <\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re of a certain age you&#8217;ll know Outrun, the 80s arcade game:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ELUl-cAtUIE?si=5UeLkvm_S3FuEzEf\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&#8230; and there&#8217;s a whole culture that embraces this look, perhaps with a bit of <em>Tron<\/em> and <em>Miami Vice<\/em> along the way. The band <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunshipmusic.com\/\">GUNSHIP<\/a><\/em> are an example, and to see just how much the Outrun game influences this, one of their videos imagines what the Outrun couple do at night:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/q-GeNUuyi94?si=qcfF9jSR_LxZ7SkX\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The whole thing is like a re-imagining of something that almost existed. It&#8217;s an interesting subculture, it has produced some good music, and I can&#8217;t help but wonder where it came from.
