Usually, when we’re on holiday, we’re wanting to come home at the end of our time. We miss our cats and our house, and on this trip, I miss Indian takeaways ;-).<\/p>\n

However, we both felt that we could have managed more time. I don’t think I could permanently live in a place as isolated, but the peace was nice (and in fact, the crowds around Durness at one point felt uncomfortable).<\/p>\n

However, we had a pre-booked overnight stop somewhere nice on the way back, so back on the road.<\/p>\n

An uneventful journey back towards and on the A9 saw us conveniently near Blair Atholl at lunchtime and a drop into the Bothy Bar<\/a> at the Blair Atholl hotel got us lunch. Onwards got us to Callander<\/a>, a town we’ve driven through, but never stopped, and a very nice hotel<\/a> indeed as a close to our holiday and a treat for a special occasion by around 3:30pm. Callander was nice. We’d stayed up the road in Killin before now<\/a>, but never here. We had a short hobble around the town before dinner, a drink in the lovely bar, and settling in to our suite for the evening (we’d got a complimentary upgrade!).<\/p>\n

A positively lovely breakfast saw us back on the road around 9:30 with a brief refuelling stop just up the road, and clearly something was wrong: a bank holiday weekend, and a easy journey back (4:56, 312 miles, 54.5 mpg. Back to our kitties.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
