I’d been wondering for some time what kind of poor, deranged soul would ever wish to watch that defining pinnacle of televisual culture that is Deal or No Deal<\/a>. (I was also wondering why it wasn’t on ITV or BBC1, given its quality- but then I remembered that C4 also screens Big Brother (etc….)).

\nYesterday I had my answer: a medical appointment took me to the QE Medical Centre in Selly Oak. About 5 or 6 people were transfixed<\/em> by it (being shown on the waiting room TV), to the degree of one woman bouncing up and down in her chair with excitement. This made me very sad for the state of the world. Before anyone makes the comment, these were not people being treated for a mental illness (as I wasn’t, despite what some may wish…). OK, they weren’t candidates for genius of the year either- they also laughed at the ‘comedy’ in the adverts. One of them was a member of nursing staff who found DoND sufficiently riveting to draw her away from her job (so we were all paying someone to watch Noel fucking Edmonds and a bunch of halfwits on TV).<\/p>\n

I’m well up for the showing of subliminal flash frames in the ad breaks of this show, and in fact the majority of quiz shows, and all reality TV too while I’m at it- encouraging people to either turn off, or just put the average IQ up a bit by topping themselves. (Mind you, there’s plenty of other things I’d like introduced that might be a little controversial. If I become world leader, there will be a few changes [mad evil overlord<\/a>]Bwuhaaaahaaa![\/mad evil overlord]<\/p>\n

Now, I can understand people that get very excited at a sporting event. I don’t- I find it very very dull. I can understand poeple watching and enjoying say, period dramas too, though that’s another thing I’m not keen on.<\/p>\n

BUT: Noel cockbadger Edmonds, and crappy quiz show?<\/p>\n

Please, tell me this isn’t the world I live in. Oh, it is. Soap Operas, Big Brother, Quiz Shows.
