I always liked Ludlow<\/a> as a child- probably because of the castle- but our visit back there yesterday was a bit mixed. Our main reason for going there was my better half had a balloon flight from the town, so we booked a room for a couple of nights at the nearby Travelodge<\/a>, which was like all other Travelodges: not plush, a bit basic, but clean, comfortable, and quiet. It’s also close to a handy convenience store, and close enough to the town.

\nLudlow itself, is however, a bit ‘la-di-fucking-dah’, and a bit twee for our liking- plummy accents abound, and restaurants advertise ‘pre-theatre dinner’ (luvvie, darling). Most of the inhabitants seem to be either of that type, or Barry<\/a> driving his ‘modified’ fiesta round the town endlessly. There were<\/i> nice people about, to be fair, it’s just the two types mentioned made their presence felt strongly.<\/p>\n

It’s also a hard place to get food, because *everywhere* is packed- though given the festival was in full swing I suppose that’s not surprising. We very nearly ended up eating chips on a bench, when we happened upon the (curiously nearly empty) Rose & Crown<\/a>, which saved the day.<\/p>\n

As it was, the flight was cancelled, and we cancelled the 2nd night, not fancying another trawl of the town for food.<\/p>\n
