What has happened to sandwiches?<\/p>\n

It seems that despite the huge selection of places to purchase them, and the huge selection thereof, they’re all<\/strike> mostly shite. <\/p>\n

Either they’re all over-fussy, poncy sounding shite drowning in mayonaise (one of my least favourite things these days), or just plain tasteless, dry, limp, or foul, unless you can find a decent honest-to-goodness actual baker’s shop that will make it fresh in front of you.<\/p>\n

I realise I’m getting a bit ranty here, but it’s a symptom of today: available everywhere, big selection, glossy packaging, a huge business with a British Sandwich association (!) as a representing body<\/a>, but the product is crap. Allegedly<\/a> (click for sandwich propoganda…) loaded in salt, often high in fat and calories, and crap.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, one of the surviving relics of days gone by is got rid of<\/a> by the food hygiene nazis. (incidentally, here’s<\/a> the only myspace page I will ever link to- this pub is on my list to visit soon….by the sweet lord zombie jebus, myspace sucks ass though.)<\/p>\n

Anyway back on topic. Usually the stymistress makes sandwiches for us to take to work, so no worries there. It’s a different matter if you’re out and about though. There are still a few pubs that obviously risk the public’s health with cobs, but nowhere near enough.<\/p>\n
