{"id":1795,"date":"2017-11-25T18:50:56","date_gmt":"2017-11-25T18:50:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.piglet-net.net\/pubblog\/?p=1795"},"modified":"2017-11-26T12:35:15","modified_gmt":"2017-11-26T12:35:15","slug":"the-jiggers-whistle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.piglet-net.net\/pubblog\/?p=1795","title":{"rendered":"The Jigger&#8217;s Whistle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brownhills:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/embed?pb=!1m18!1m12!1m3!1d2420.6545441644325!2d-1.934643169460372!3d52.64815401813468!2m3!1f0!2f0!3f0!3m2!1i1024!2i768!4f13.1!3m3!1m2!1s0x4870a0fc5baa5bfb%3A0x4dee71a5c7486274!2s5-7+High+St%2C+Brownhills%2C+Walsall+WS8+6ED!5e0!3m2!1sen!2suk!4v1511696948622\" width=\"350\" height=\"350\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"border:0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><strong><\/p>\n<p>Just within sight of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atlasobscura.com\/places\/jigger-the-brownhills-miner\">Morris Miner<\/a> and named after his official name, this is a new micropub (it <a href=\"https:\/\/brownhillsbob.com\/2017\/11\/17\/a-quick-jiggers-whistle-and-its-open\/\">opened a week ago<\/a>) in a old photography shop on Brownhills High St.<\/p>\n<p>Brownhills does have good pubs, but the only ones right near the centre are the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.piglet-net.net\/pubblog\/?p=1006\">Shoulder of Mutton<\/a> or Smithy&#8217;s Forge. I quite like the Shoulder, but there&#8217;s no ale there, and the nearby Smithy&#8217;s Forge is a fairly dreadful family feedbag, so the best chance of a decent pint of ale has either been <a href=\"http:\/\/www.piglet-net.net\/pigblog\/?p=3100\">Backyard&#8217;s taproom<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.piglet-net.net\/pubblog\/?p=632\">The Swan<\/a>. The taproom has limited hours, and the Swan, while excellent, is a walk out of town, so a the new micro is very welcome, being very close to the bus.<\/p>\n<p>Inside, it&#8217;s typical micropub, but a bit larger than some. Unsurprisingly there&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tbb.uk.com\/\">Backyard<\/a> beer on, and I think I overheard the landlord say he&#8217;s intending to keep one on permanently. That and the HPA were in excellent condition. There&#8217;s music, but it&#8217;s bearable and not loud, rather like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.piglet-net.net\/pubblog\/?p=1281\">The Turtle&#8217;s Head<\/a>. No food beyond snacks and cobs. <\/p>\n<p>All in all, very pleasant.
