Manchester:
I was reluctant. We were eating nearby, and the previous place we passed was an All Bar One, home of overpriced drinks for the terminally uninspired, and this looked a bit hipster, and had the currently fashionable 90s revival exposed cable tray, but it redeemed itself with a great beer selection: I had to have Temple of Love from Hopcraft. There were hipster types, but prices were surprisingly OK.
Manchester:
We’d discounted it once because of noise level, but we were a bit pissed and one of the party persuaded us: in fact, it was OK. Busy, noisy, but OK, with decent beer, and the karaoke wasn’t so bad at a distance from the speakers.

We went in here after abortive attempts with other bars nearer the river, but this was a better option (at least when we arrived) as we got a seat and could hear one another. It’s a Nicholson’s pub, so for a chain quite agreeable and traditional. Staff were pleasant, and the beer decent too. It got rapidly noisy, which I think accounted for the staff calling time very early.

Another wonderful Manchester pub with a heritage interior, great beer, and great staff, and again, very convenient for us. Interior is proper traditional multi-room city pub, exterior tiled.

We were lucky in Manchester, working close by to some of the great pubs; and this was one.
Lovely heritage pub with a great heritage interior. Great beer and staff too.

Our local while working in Manchester. Supposedly the inspiration for the pub in the TV show Life on Mars. it’s a traditional boozer with great beer, great staff and a good jukebox (even if someone kept skipping the metal). There’s food at lunchtime, and at night the atmosphere is lively without being too noisy and rowdy; just what a city-centre pub should be.
