A458 Near Welshpool:
A pitstop for lunch. Very friendly, and didn’t whinge about serving food at 14:40. Good beer choice, decent food, good price.
It’s a traditional pub- decor is a bit dated, but everything was clean and it was pleasant.

Tal y Don Hotel
Barmouth:
Not-quite-seafront pub, close to the station. Nice outdoor space, friendly staff, decent beer, and far better than you’d expect here.
Pen-y-Gwrd Hotel
Snowdonia:
In the heart of Snowdonia, and used during training for Everest, this is a small, family-run hotel.
We stopped for lunch, and both beer and food were very good, and the welcome friendly. It’s a good stop in the middle of the mountains, and a nice drive down to Porthmadog.
St Tudwal’s Hotel
Abersoch, N Wales:
Abersoch seems to have fallen in with the Chesire set, and St Tudwal’s has had a makeover to suit. It’s slightly upmarket chain pub with decent beer and food. Not much character, but clean, friendly, and welcoming when it’s pissing it down in Wales, which of course it usually is.

Harlech:
In the newer, lower part of town, this ‘looks like a gastropub’ according to BITE, and that’s a fair description, but if that puts you off, ignore it. There’s a restaurant attached, and hotel rooms too, but the bar feels like a pub. A nice pub, with good beer, friendly staff, and a nice atmosphere. The restaurant is good too, but this is PubBlog.
The Queens Hotel

Is there something about the name?
To be fair, the Pelsall Queens is OK, but this one was rough. Rougher than a scrapyard dog.
Filthy. Disgustingly so, by even my standards. Shit choice of beer, and kids toys strewn about, together with the kid. We drank quickly and left.
The Lion Hotel
Harlech:
Not as imposing as the Castle Hotel, but nicer IMO. It’s a traditional pub in the town centre. The staff were very friendly, the beer good, and the food looked good too. It seems to cater for locals and tourists well.

Large, imposing hotel/pub right by the castle.
First impressions were OK, rather than brilliant, and they were correct. The staff were a little unfriendly, the food was OK, but the beer was good. Prices reasonable considering, but there’s better nearby.
