AKA “Nellie’s” aparently, this is an old coaching in, and looks and feels the part; very traditional and historic, and not mucked about with. As it’s a Sam Smith’s pub, the prices were low, and the beer choice was theirs alone. I’m not a massive fan of Old Brewery Bitter, but it was in good condition, and atmosphere in the pub was great.

Listed as a micropub but less micro than others, this was a real find. Pleasant bar staff and locals and a great selection of well-kept beer (including a 7.2% IPA that had a bit of a kick…) no music, no TV, no machines, just conversation. Nice looking pie selection too, but we’d just eaten.

Really pleasant town centre pub with rooms (but the focus is the pub, thankfully). Good, reasonably priced food menu (with pensioner’s apecials, making it hard for us to get a seat), and very friendly staff and landlord. Good ale choice, including Timothy Taylor Golden Best, which you never get near home.
