We went in here because it’s opposite the restaurant we ate in that night.

Inside is nicely traditionalish, exposed brick vaulting, leather seating, and the place is best described as “gastropub”, in that it is a pub, just, and describes itself as such, but there’s a heavy food bias (which looks good, TBH, even with the cardinal sin of writing “£4.50” as “£4.5”, the pretentious fuckers).

As it was, it was nice. Staff were pleasant, the beer and wind was fine. They even lit the candles on request (for some reason one colleague wanted this).

Inverness:

We’d been recommended this place for food, so unsurprisingly it’s very food-biased. It’s also very, very popular, and we only just got a table, so reservations are wise.

Outside it looks like a tastefully refurbished pub; bright and fresh but not ruined. Inside is quite traditional-looking, though recently refurbed and tidy, but quite tightly packed with tables.

From early evening until 9pm it’s packed with diners, but this thins out as food service ends, and there’s live music, so at this point the atmosphere changes a little. Decent beer choice, really good (and good value, if not actually cheap) food, and absolutely charming staff, given the workload.

I wouldn’t come here expecting a quiet pint, but for a meal that’s well above ordinary pub food it’s probably a no-brainer.

Colwyn Bay, Wales

Colwyn Bay:

At the Rhos-on-Sea end of Colwyn Bay’s prom, a slow amble brought us here. It’s a bit of a gastropub, definitely not a drinkers one. Access was a bit tricky for a family member with us in a wheelchair, but staff were accommodating and helpful. We were only drinking, and prices were a bit on the high side, but it’s a very attractive-looking pub- traditional inside and out. There was ale, but I didn’t try it, but it had every chance of being good, judging by the staff.
