Another hotel, another pubby hotel! Inside feels like a country pub, outside looks like one.
Fabulous beer garden, great beer choice, some craft bollocks and some cask, both fine, and great food. Really pleasant staff again too.

The Claremont
Bognor Regis, West Sussex:
Traditional-looking pub just a short way back from the front, near to an ex-pub now homing the Bognor Regis Museum– where we found that The Claremont is rumoured to be haunted.
Inside, it’s been modernised, but it’s not stripped all the character from it, and it’s clean and smart. There wass cask ale, but I missed it and had posh lager instead. We were hoping for food, but they don’t currently do that midweek. Staff were really friendly and pleasant.
The Regis
Bognor Regis, West Sussex:
A Brewer’s Fayre right on the seafront, and presumably trading on position alone.
I’ll start with the good: the staff were pleasant.
Nothing much else was: the solitary ale was Doom Bar. The place felt a little grubby throughout, and things were tatty- the fireplace with bricks missing, for a start. The pinnacle though, were the toilets: there was a notice saying they were regularly checked: presumably to check they were filthy enough: apparently the ladies was strewn with toilet paper, and had one broken seat and one broken door lock. The gents had every urinal bagged over, and no bog roll in one of the two cubicles.
While I’ve seen toilets as bad elsewhere, and kind of like tatty pubs, I’d expect the trade-off for a family feedbag to be that if the drinks choice is a bit crap and there’s no atmosphere, at least the place is clean….
The Navigator Hotel
Bognor Regis, West Sussex:
Again, a hotel, but sufficiently pubby. Decent food, decent ale, and a seafront terrace/conservatory that’s a great place to sit.
The Chichester Inn
Chichester:
Another hotel, but it feels very pubby. A short walk from the central cross. Stripped floorboards and green paint, but not a Greene King hatchet job; the bar is pleasant, bright and airy. Really friendly staff and pubdog, excellent beer and food.
The Dolphin & Anchor
Chichester;
A ‘spoons. Quite a nice spoons, as they go, but definitely a ‘spoons, so you know the deal. Nice building.
The Beresford
Middleton-on Sea, West Sussex:
A pub, but only just pubby enough! Clearly very food-biased (“please wait here to be seated”), this was already filling up as we arrived just after midday on a Sunday, and was chaotically busy by 1pm. It’s rated for its carvery, but I can’t comment; we had sandwiches and beer in the garden while the chaos of families with children continued inside. The garden was lovely though, as was the beer, food, and staff.
[edit] A later visit (in the week) saw it a lot calmer, and the carvery was excellent.
The Dog and Duck
Bognor Regis, West Sussex:
Micropub in a back street close to the seafront. We should have really liked this: the staff were really friendly, and the beer (straight from a cask by gravity) was in great nick, I got asked what glass I wanted (perverts can have a dimpled mug) and there was no loud music, but…
The beer we picked wasn’t great (just poor choice on our part). All the seating is those awful tall chairs, and the place rapidy filled with gobshites.
The Aviator
Bognor Regis, West Sussex:
Pretty standard Marstons seafront feedbag in the Carlton Hotel, with the oddity being the aeroplane parts (including a cockpit in the bar). Other than that, unexceptional, but pleasant enough. Food and beer both great, staff very friendly, good outside seafront terrace.
The Waterloo Inn
Bognor Regis, West Sussex:
Drinker’s pub just off the seafront on one side of Waterloo Square. No cask ale, but decent lager. Really friendly staff and locals, benches out front on a lovely sunny day. Nice enough that we came back later in the day.
