Yesterday we were meeting friends in Aldridge for a curry, and the only choice for a drink beforehand was The Elms. What a grim experience: loud, shouty football fans, sticky carpet, warm Stella- after the last visit was ‘better than dreadful’. Why does Aldridge have no good central pubs?

I hate The Elms as well!
Aldridge, despite the fact that it’s a bit more affluent in general than some of the surrounding areas, has more than it’s fair share of trouble. Oddly enough, the nicest pub in the town is closer one of the council estates than The Elms, and that estate has an unenviable reputation. This visit actually saw us witnessing a punch-up…
Yes I’ve been there when there’s been a fistickup or two. Bit of a ride out of Aldridge and on the way to Sutton is the Farmer John and The Buccaneer – used to be some of our haunts 20 years ago now but avoided the worst of the trouble makers, but then there were 10 of us!
Farmer John’s is still there, and unpleasant in a ‘craphole with loud TV, kids, and grubbiness kind of way- and it’s in another slightly more affluent (i.e: up themselves) area- Streetly). The Buccaneer is flats now, I think.
How disappointing. Looks like you’ll have to revert to some of the more interesting pubs in the other direction….:-)

I think it’s shut anyway. Not certain.
There is a lovely one along that road, nearer Bloxwich.
One pub I’ve never been in I think at least not for a few decades. Maybe we should meet up and try it out?
