Chasewater, and a Hussey in a State

We had a wander to Chasewater to have a look at the classic car show- it was a little dissapointing- the weather today wasn’t inspiring, but I think most of all the lack of publicity (despite the best efforts of Brownhills Bob and Chasewater Stuff) and the siting (well away from the cafe etc- we couldn’t see it when we arrived) didn’t help matters, and a several cars were leaving as early as 1pm. There were a few non-classic cars there too, including a slightly Barry 2005(!) Clio, but there were some nice motors as well- a few pics here.

We went back via Brownhills rather than the canal, and discovered that since it’s recent closure the Hussey Arms has come to the attention of the metal thieves: the alarm was sounding inside and the roof has been damaged presumably while the flashing was being torn off (look by the chimney). Shame really, it’s quite a nice building and could be a good pub.

All of this practically opposite the police station….

  1. It’s tragic, it’s a nice building and deserves a decent future. I think it could be a decent pub with the right management and vision, though I suspect it’s large size may be against it.

I was saying to a mate a couple of weeks ago that the site would quickly deteriorate – the sheltered car park and gardens are a veritable invitation to vandals and ne’er do wells.

The large brewery chains of the 80’s and 90’s have much to answer for in this sad decline.

    Best wishes

    Bob
