Last night we fancied a change, so we went to Willenhall for a few beers, and a very nice Chinese meal for a very nice low price.
We were going to invite AndyM along, but by the time I remembered, it was too late. Anyway, border control let us over M6 J10 (we walked from Walsall town centre) without a local in tow, so that was OK. Willenhall is surprisingly full of nice buildings (like many places it seems to have had the Victorian and 1930s booms), and has some decent pubs, but it’s run down in places (I don’t think the boom times ever came back….). It does mean that nowhere charges ‘premium’ (i.e: rip-off) prices though.
Interestingly, the Malthouse (link above) gets a mention here, which is less than complimentary about the whole WV13 area… I don’t think that’s fair, but I do know now why the 529 (the very frequent bus service between Walsall & Wolverhampton, which passes though) is known as the ‘chav express’.

And you survived? Obviously you’ve never found some of Willenhall’s more solubrious pubs like the Brewers Droop and the Ring of Keys! If you wanted to try your luck wih life, like I did today trying to get to Gt. Russell St London, try the Barrel & Shrive followed by The Bell.

Is the George the one by the 529 stop- if so, not on this occaision, but I have been in there. The Brewers Droop was on our list but we ran out of time. We last went there about 15yrs ago…..
