We went to Burgh Island, a part-time island with a beautiful Art Deco hotel on it, had lunch, and sat on the beach watching the sea tractor ferry people over. There’s some pics in the gallery. We also visited Salcombe on the way back, which would be nice if you like shops full of designer clothes for tossers and businesses that all begin with the word ‘Captain’, which I don’t.

Down South: Day 1
OK, this is a retrospective post: the site was down as we were on holiday, and this is post 1 of x the fill the gaps. We went for a few days camping near Dartmouth, and had a great time. The journey down was largely uneventful: about the only thing that amazed me was the number of people thatb are completely unable to drive thieir cars down country lanes: they seem to imagine their Ford Focus is 15ft wide, and so brake violently each time a car passes in the other direction. Ho Hum.
One of the things the google map (above) doesn’t show is the gradient: The road out of town is 12.5%, and like that for most of the way. Today was the only day we walked it. Had there been a pub halfway up, it might have beeen different.
Pangkor
Pangkor is a tiny island just off the coast of Malaysia. Here we had monkeys raid our room (this would be why they tell you to lock the door….. and went for a ten-mile walk in 32deg heat and 90% humidity. However, we also sat about a good bit too. We had marvellous Chinese food for two (with beer) for about £7.50, and saw an amazing tropical storm. Pictures in the gallery.
Destination KL
Our holiday took us to Kuala Lumpur first, via Birmingham and Dubai. KL is a really nice city. Really nice, full of friendly people, and the most polluted place I have ever seen. Car is king, and motor scooter crown prince. Step out of the air conditioning into 32 degree heat, 90% humidity, and a cloud of carbon monoxide and unburnt hydrocarbons.
