The Swan to re-open

Well, it’s taken a long time (first reported by Brownhills Bob here), but now the Swan really is going to re-open next weekend.

The Swan, 23rd Oct 2011. Soon to re-open.

Jane Taylor said in an email:

Yes work is firmly underway now. We finally got the keys on September 22nd so have spent the past 4 weeks working like crazy to get the place as we want it. Unfortunately with time constraints we havent been able to do as much as we’d have liked but the trading areas are definitely shaping up now. We’ve had all new windows on the frontage so its looking better. Havent the time to paint the exterior which is a shame as that would certainly make a bigger impact.
We open next Saturday (29th).

They also have a facebook page, but I don’t do facebook.

I know they’ve put in a lot of work, and seemingly had a few pitfalls (the sale apparently took a long time, and as you might expect, there’s been a lot of work to do to a neglected Victorian boozer), so please drop in and support them- I intend to. The Swan has always been a pub I like, so I have high hopes given the new owners have considerable experience in the pub trade. It’s nice for once to see pubs opening rather than closing.

You’ll find a map to the pub in the post linked above. It’s also worth noting that although the nearest canal bridge no longer has access to the road, there’s easy access from Cooper’s Bridge (cross the bridge and continue straight over) or the lovely but decaying, listed, old railway bridge.

Anyone (like me) concerned about the lovely old etched panes from William Roberts‘ brewery can rest easy: while they are no longer in the windows, they have been saved.

[…] always liked the Swan. It’s a traditional community pub in Brownhills, and as I posted here it’s just re-opened. It’s now a free house, so hopefully the new owners will be able to […]

Having just read the write up on our pub (The Swan, Pelsall Rd, Brownhills) I thought I should thankyou for the publicity. Now into week 8 of trading I can say things are going ok. Considering this recession, that is affecting us all, we’re pleased with the way things are going. Having said that, we’d love more custom, who wouldn’t?
Geared up for christmas now, and we’ll be open on The Day itself, from 11.30am until 2.30pm but closed in the evening. New Years Eve is a ‘ticket only’ night. £10 per ticket gets you your first drink free and a good buffet. There will be background music playing to suit all tastes.
Traditional Ale sales have been great. Its brilliant to see ‘proper’ beer sales on the rise. We have Holdens Golden Glow on permanently with a 2nd, and sometimes a 3rd, rotating cask ale. Currently these are Tetleys Christmas Cracker & Beowulf Beorma. Fingers crossed for prosperity to all in 2012.

How very nice to hear from you. I’ve dropped in twice, in those 8 weeks and will continue to do so- the pub is a credit to your work and a nice place to drink.
