I have a vodafone 3G broadband dongle on pay as you go- this post comes to you via that and my EeePC. It works really well, once you sniff the serial port on a Windows PC with the dreadful Voda software and work out how to send the right commands to it, but it’s a real pisser how Vodafone filter the web, including pubs, until you turn off their electronic nannying software.

use three myself. works really well, have had 2Mps one some occasions, but with windows, blew away the THREE firmware, unlocked it and use the huawie firmware and software.
not run into any restricted sites yet,
£10 per 1G / 1 month, urban coverage is excellent, UK rural coveage is slightly better than the main four networks, but does fall back to orange GSM when totally THREE out of coverage
have used it in scotish highlands before !!
dont have a netbook yet, (still hopefull) but my sony laptop is quite light so bring it to work from time to time, to do stuff which is blocked from my desk !
The Voda one I have is £39 one-off, then £15/GB. It works very well in a strong signal- 3M is possible in central Birmingham IME.
The nannying is done at the network level- you have to register and prove your age to disable it.
