I’ve been decorating, after the damp-proofing being done for the 3rd time now. I’d already decorated enough to put the stereo back, after fixing the CD player (yay!), so I was accompanied by Core, which I have to say is still a wonderful album after almost 15 years.
The CD player fixing was very satisfying- the drawer had stuck on our really-rather-good Marantz player- and getting it to pieces revealed a bit of plastic broken off that seems to serve no purpose. Nice to not have to spend £150-200 on a new one. A short experiment with the spare DVD player revealed it to be unbearably bad at CD audio…
Anyway, back to the decorating. The room hasn’t been properly finished since this episode, as:
1) I hate DIY, pretty much. Plus I like going to the pub.
2) The damp proofing has been repeatedly redone, and I wanted ot be at least half confident it was sorted before painting again. It finally looks like it is sorted.
This time, the infamous fireplace is going in, for sure. That means I’ve been hitting things with the hammer & chisel again and will be having to tile. That’s after repairing the sockets/wallboxes damaged by the damp (one wallbox fell apart, one socket had seized screws, and the other socket was so full of plaster that it no longer worked), and cleaning, sanding and filling…
Ah, I’d forgotten that album. Takes me back…

It had a whole officefull of us enthusing yesterday- to a degree I’ve not seen before.
I’ve been persuading mydelf to do a bit each evening, tonight’s accompanying music was this, for some variety. I do own some more modern music, honest.
I’m doing the same and it’s slow, oh so slow. I hate stripping wallpaper. Even doing a wall a night is driving me mad with the aid of a steamer. My skin is lovely now though – no spots or blackheads……
Wallpaper…won’t be having any of that. It’s plently tiresome enough painting.
I hate wallpaper too – and I’ve had a major setback . You need a decent surface to paint first – something I’m lacking at the moment!
Well, I have finished painting walls and woodwork. That leaves boxing the gas meter (and I suppose painting that), retiling bits of the hearth, and painting & fitting the fireplace. I’ve just discovered I don’t have enough tiles as well. What do we reckon the chance of some matching ones are?

If you have a sample there is a good tile place on the Stafford Rd in Wolves near McD’s. There is another place nearby so might be worth the trip over in case they can’t help you.
