Down and Out

Sorry, but things seems to have gone a bit wrong!. Apache seemed to die at some point, and being lazy, I just did a ‘shutdown -i6 now’ from work.

Then it didn’t come back up. The horrid prompt ‘enter root password for maintenance, or ctrl-D for normal startup.

No it isn’t. It was a stck of duff RAM. I’ve taken out 256MB of Ram (=2 sticks) and re-run memtest, and all seems good. I’d take it back, but I got it with the PC for nothing…..)

a) The power failures recently upset the disk a bit, and it’s now passed the fsck interval and done a check that failed.

or

b) The dodgy fujitsu hard drive (yes, one of those!) is going duff.

I’ve now taken it back down again for a quick backup :-).
