Well, look at that. Sony, everyones favourite manufacturer of consumer electronics is a big evil corporation infecting your PC with badly-coded malware without your knowledge.

Who’d have believed it.

The audio CD tested in the linked article silently installs a rootkit that buggers up your CD-ROM driver, and then hides it’s own existence, so you can’t see it running. This is very bad, and may be illegal. The investigation was carried out by one of the guys at sysinternals, who are amongst the most talented windows people around.

Here’s hoping Sony get hauled into court good and hard.
