I’ve just bought ‘Keepsakes‘, an All About Eve compilation with a few hard-to-find tracks, some previously unreleased stuff, and a bonus DVD of promo videos AAA were very much a favourite band in 1987-8-9 ish, alond with the rather obvious Mission & Sisters of Mercy. Yep, aging sad almost-goth alert. (I still can’t stop wearing black….) Now, I’ve recently had the piss took by two generations of my next-door neighbours for liking this kind of stuff (and 80s music in general), so I’m sticking my neck out here. I maintain that the 1990s was the worst period ever for music, no question. Even with the late-80s horrors of Stock, Aitken & Waterman, and by comparison, no-one take take the piss out of anyone wearing black clothes, eyeliner, and looking miserable*. Thoughts anyone?
*I’d like to point out that despite looking miserable often, I have never worn eyeliner. Never Confused.

What, even the Fields of the Nephilim?
I saw those at The Wolves Civic many years ago – great sound but confusing light show – everything was backlit so all you could see of the band was their hats and loadsa smoke – could have been anybody miming up their with a tape player!

My bad experience of goths is largely around a group of guys I used to knock about with who one weekend decided they were now goths and bam! Ridiculous top hats, eye liner, nephlilin non stop and a bad smell from all the lavendar. Bunch of tossers. I just see it as another pretentious attension grabbing “look at me someone please!!! I’m not interesting to look at without my make up” kind of thing that is currently plaguing the rock world. Just to make my tastes clear, I like my music raw, loud and without all the trimmings. It could be hip-hop, drums and bass or the most aggresive death metal that you can conceive – I just can’t stand all the vain c*nts in music.
I’m glad to say I never got worse than wearing black a lot. They didn’t chuck flour over each other for the dusty neph look did they?
