On Monday I watched ‘Guys and Dolls’ on Five, and can honestly say that’s the most disturbed I’ve been by TV in a long time. It was a
Documentary about the men who use sophisticated life-size dolls for sexual satisfaction and more – such as dates, affection and lifelong companionship. Featuring a young American man who gives his doll daily massages in the home he shares with his disapproving Mum and Dad;
Parents Eh? How unreasonable.
a British man who takes his doll out on day trips to the coast where she watches him hang-glide;
Watches. Yes. Of course.
and two Americans who live with multiple dolls, one of whom shares his eight synthetic lovers with his human girlfriend.
Now it’s plenty strange enough to want to have sex with a £4000 rubber doll (even one as sophisticated as this), but these people interacted with them as if they were real. Isn’t there help for people like this? (hopefully bullet shaped?) I was genuinely scared.
I should perhaps mention that Everard (!), the British man was ‘a computer technician’. Make of that what you will.
Obviously too much UNIX is affecting him.
I can imagine the following scenario’s if Everard was one of these:
If he was a Macintosh user, the doll would have matching clothes for him and her.
If he was a Cisco user, the doll would have just the essentials and would have the “no clothes” command line available.
Windows users, the doll would stop for no apparent reason during sex and would require a reboot…..
Now I had a similar conversation with my better half and my view is that its better for these men to have an outlet rather than rape to satisfy their lust. I seriously wonder what a drummer from a band in the past would have done if it was not for Cuddles (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/west_midlands/5145382.stm) and various strip clubs in brum. He is very likely to be one of these guys in the future…..
I don’t think they were potential rapists, but they were deluded, sad people unable to interact with real people, or at least women.
I did think the one guy who used the dolls for sex was *less* deluded: even though it’s pretty strange, at least he didn’t _pretend_they_were_real_.
I kind of agree with the sexual outlet thing: you could consider it an exotic form of masturbation perhaps. Not my thing, but ho hum. The bit that scared me was the sick fuckers forming relationships with them.
