Ludlow

I always liked Ludlow as a child- probably because of the castle- but our visit back there yesterday was a bit mixed. Our main reason for going there was my better half had a balloon flight from the town, so we booked a room for a couple of nights at the nearby Travelodge, which was like all other Travelodges: not plush, a bit basic, but clean, comfortable, and quiet. It’s also close to a handy convenience store, and close enough to the town.

Ludlow itself, is however, a bit ‘la-di-fucking-dah’, and a bit twee for our liking- plummy accents abound, and restaurants advertise ‘pre-theatre dinner’ (luvvie, darling). Most of the inhabitants seem to be either of that type, or Barry driving his ‘modified’ fiesta round the town endlessly. There were nice people about, to be fair, it’s just the two types mentioned made their presence felt strongly.

It’s also a hard place to get food, because *everywhere* is packed- though given the festival was in full swing I suppose that’s not surprising. We very nearly ended up eating chips on a bench, when we happened upon the (curiously nearly empty) Rose & Crown, which saved the day.

As it was, the flight was cancelled, and we cancelled the 2nd night, not fancying another trawl of the town for food.

Do you have good teeth my dear? I could sell you to the rich people.
