There’s been much talk lately of drinking, especially teenage drinking, ruining our society. The Daily Mirror has been [sarcasm]at the forefront of this excellent campaign[/sarcasm], and BBC Breakfast has chipped in, and Tesco have said they would back increasing prices in it’s role of moral guardian (or would that be so they can profit more, while claiming the moral high ground?) Yay Tesco, saviours of the world.
The reporting all hinges around the low cost of alcohol. BBC Breakfast went on a search of how many units average pocket money buys (who did the research, and are their findings available?), but that’s not the issue is it? It’s already illegal for under 18s to buy alcohol, and for an over-18 to buy it for an under-19. It’s also illegal to be drunk & disorderly. So apply those laws. Much was made of how cheap Tesco Value Lager is, but can you see anyone getting pissed on that? Could you drink it fast enough?
Is British drinking culture, The Brits, cheap alcohol or boredom the cause? Are today’s teenagers (or at least some of them) just little shits 😉 ?

The booze culture is just endemic in our society I’m afraid. Respect in the classroom maybe one way through but I think that increases in the price of booze is the the next obvious step I’m afraid.

That’s what I thought, but I’m a grumpy old man with no kids, so my view may be coloured accordingly.

The booze culture is endemic, but most people drink, and most people behave with it: like you good self, for example. I think price increases would just make all us law-abiding drinkers suffer.
So it will probably happen.
