Router

Finally, I’ve got off my arse and got the Cisco router that’s been sitting dormant here into service. I’ve simplified the network a bit to start with, but that now means that the home network is low power. Over the years it’s peaked at 2 PCs (1 being a router), 2 hubs, 1 IP camera, a HP Laserjet and 1 wireless AP to 1 reclaimed laptop, 1 router, and the laserjet. That excludes the PC and laptop we actually use….

I’ll post the config somewhere once I’ve anonymised it a bit, as this has taken ages. Suffice to say, don’t ever use SDM.

Here you go. How to emulate a cheapy Netgear cable router with a Cisco 871W.

  1. Very much so. I spent hours trawling through the SDM-generated config and got nowhere.

Erased the config and configured by hand saw success.

Cisco’s graphical tools have always been crap. CLI FTW.
