I mentioned in this post that the Jabez Cliff works was up for sale, and now, it seems as predicted, there’s speculation about it being flattened and replaced by an ‘Iconic’ medical centre- it’s reported as sold to a consortium, and only fit for demolition because it’s ‘not even watertight’. No further substance to the story, and it’s not online, but it’s all preparation to demolish a nice old (locally listed) building in a conservation area. Again.
How long until a fire? Prace bets now.
It’s not listed. Sadly they can do what they want with it, and will.
Worth looking at which structures are listed in these parts; very few, two being the railway bridge over the canal near Pelsall Road, Brownhills and the Aqueduct over the same line.
Depressing.

There’s a few canal structures in the borough though- James Bridge Aqueduct, for one. Be quite hard to burn that one down. Unlike the church…
It’s sad that ‘local listing’ seems to offer no protection, and the ‘conservation area’ is pointless.
Meanwhile, the Overstrand survives. Where’s the justice?
