First of all, a Tsing Tao to the first comment that gives the film the post title is from.

Secondly: What has happened to Chinese food?

We had a takeaway from a local Chinese takeaway on Saturday. It *seemed* pretty good, but we think that may have been due to the one or two aperitifs beforehand (OK, it may have been more like 6). We really don’t seem to have *good* chinese food for a while: in fact, surprisingly, the last half-reasonable one lately was in Willenhall of all places. Indian food? Decent places are ten-a-penny round here,chinese thin on the ground, anything else very hard to find, and the Chinese takeaways don’t offer anything you couldn’t knock up after a visit to Wing Yip.

  1. Don’t know the film quotation but my guess would be Pulp Fiction. The best Chinese takeaway in our parts is Jasmine House in Short Heath on Woodlands Estate. For sit down stuff, there are two places I could think of that are okay, namely Queens in Wolverhampton, but expensive, and Victoria Harbour in Featherstone on the A460. Bit out of the way but nice food and not too expensive.

    We’ve been a couple of times for family meals and the all you can eat buffet is good value. We should try it one night!

  2. Wrong. A clue: it is set in Alabama, USA, and is a comedy. The line is spoken by the female lead.

    I think the Jasmine House is just a variant on the multiple Jade Garden ones around here, and if so, a bit variable.

    The Silver Sea restaurant in Walsall was excellent, if pricey, but has now been crap and pricey *twice*.

    ‘Thelma & Louise’ or ‘Thelma & Louise: The Last Journey’

    Big guess there as I haven’t seen either.

    I actually like *good* chinese food (like the Silver Sea once did), but don’t bother with it much due to the low quality in general.

  8. The Tsing Dao belongs to the gentleman from Essington. It is indeed My Cousin Vinny.

    The line is spoken by Marisa Tomei (who got an Oscar for this film!), just after arriving in town, and to be honest, she makes the movie. Oh, and we’ve rediscovered a half decent takeaway in Pelsall too.
