I’m currently tearing up the roads in a VW Fox, as the repairs to the Fabia back in December have a slight problem (the rear apron is coming adrift), so I’m once again at the lower end of the VAG engine range, 1.2 litres, 55BHP, 80 ft/lb, and windows you wind, and no aircon or central locking. However, the Fox isn’t bad, for what it is.

What it is is a shopping and town car with basic spec, light controls, and a low price (about £6400). Similar to the Yaris (in concept- but the Yaris had much more equipment and a higher price too) I had the pleasure of last time, but at least this has progressive brakes.

What it also has in common with the Yaris is height (especially the bonnet line, for pedestrian safety), and a feeling of being huge. It’s a supposedly city car (replacing the Lupo, and about 300mm longer), but feels bigger than the Fabia (it isn’t) to drive- and you can’t see anything of the front of the car from behind the wheel.
